LISTEN

So, here's what you need to know: when it comes to oddball, my dad wins.  He is loud, he has a very thick Hungarian accent, he requires neither prompt nor audience to share opinions.  He wears a bicycle helmet while mowing the lawn.  He is wacky and set in his ways, but you know what trumps all?  He has wisdom.

I realized long ago that what he says and does is said and done for my betterment, protection, and love.  So when we run an errand to the grocery store together and he refuses to remove his sunglasses indoors to "preserve his eyesight," or he busts out demonstrating the benefits of Eastern Block dynamic stretches in the parking lot, I search for the pearls of wisdom.  I LISTEN because, yes, eyesight and flexibility are awesome, but more importantly, our parents should know that their hard-fought life lessons are leaving a trail.

BUT KEEPIN' IT REAL...

There are essentially two reactions we can have to parental advice.  For me, one far outweighs the other, and that's A-OK.
